New Work: Videos + Signage for the LCBO

My favourite figure in this illustration is the guy on the left with the checked jacket. I based it on a snazzy one I found on the J crew website.

I've just completed a large project for the LCBO as part of their newly released redesign. I created illustrations for signage, flyers + 3 videos which you can view on their website + on Vimeo.
Above are 4 screen captures from the videos.

I worked with a great group at Blammo Worldwide (Don't you love that name Blammo?!) including Creative Director Andrew Simon, Senior Art Director Grant Cleland + VP Director of Client Services Kristin Vekteris. The animation of the video was done by the lovely Steve McGregor + his great group at Poster Boy who worked many late nights to meet the April 30th deadline!

Many thanks to Blammo + the LCBO for such a wonderful gig.

Thanks Poppytalk

Thanks to Jan and Earl of Poppytalk for the blog post on the tea towels this week.

Talented friends

The last couple weeks have been full of hijinks from my fellow creative friends.

This week my friend Liz Kingstone's house is featured on House + Home Online TV.

Check out her colourful space! Love that Kilm in the entranceway.
Just last week Liz hosted a jewelry party in fabulous home. Her earrings, rings + necklaces looked great and sold like hot cakes.

Here are Liz's silver stud earrings. (40.00 a pair)
(Stay tuned:  She'll have a website + Pinterest page soon!)

My Ceramicist friend Araceli has been creating a series of bowls based on famous buildings.

Below are 2 of my favourites.
On top: Place des Vosges  Below: St. George Antiochian Church

Aren't they great?

Lastly my friend Nora had the launch for her new book last night.
Here she is glowing at the book signing table.

Congrats all!

Dancing Cheek to Cheek

This is an illustration I created for an invitation to a New Year's Eve Ball.
I worked on this project with the talented husband + wife design team Sali Tabacchi. Melissa + Henry are the designers behind Azure magazine, Design Lines, and Mjolk amongst many other projects.
For the design of the invite I love how Melissa reversed out my drawing in light blue and then laid it against a dark background for a very "twinkly + elegant evening out" vibe.

Hudson's Bay tea towel now available in stores + online

Hillman Curtis 1961 - 2012

Shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Designer, Author, Filmmaker Hillman Curtis passed away on Wednesday. I wrote about him several times on this blog and was lucky enough to hear him speak in Toronto in 2007. He was one of my favourite creative thinkers. Incredibly generous with his ideas and so modest. He will be deeply missed.

A visit to comrags

Spring = A visit to comrags for a new spring frock.
**News: Did you know...comrags is moving to Dundas West?!
The design of this shop on Queen was described as "Country farmhouse meets urban industrial". Can't wait to see what they'll do in terms of interior design in the new space.
Stay tuned.

I settled on the Lucy dress in dijon.
Isn't it great?
Loved the pockets - big enough to collect eggs :-)

Happiness is a comrags package in one's bicycle basket!

Nora Young's new book

My friend Nora's book The Virtual Self came out last week.
Details of the book launch next week are above.
See you there.

Interview with Lourdes Sanchez in Uppercase magazine

Uppercase Magazine Issue 13 is out and it's another beauty with a gorgeous cover by Eloise Renouf.
The issue also contains my interview with textile designer Lourdes Sanchez.

I visited Lourdes last May in her live/work space in Gowanus Brooklyn. I was blown away by her quirky + soulful studio - especially her massive inspiration board which covered the entire wall above her desk (made my sweet boyfriend Russell) and her comprehensive library of art books. I coulda spent all day in there curled up reading!!

Lourdes' beautiful inks and patterns

We spent a very fun day together which included a delicious burrito lunch + long stroll around her neighbourhood with her Havanese pooch Moonpie.
Some pics of our day together below.

Lourdes' doggie Moonpie.

yum.... Burritos.
Meeting Lourdes was a complete inspiration to me and am happy to say we are still very much in touch. :-)
